Intel is one of the world-leading microchip manufacturers for various sectors of the industry. It also makes the most widely used wireless network cards and Bluetooth chipsets for different computers. They have now released new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers for some of their supported devices for October 2021, which is version 22.80.1.

The significance of these drivers is that they are validated for use with Windows 11 which has just recently launched on 5 October 2021, as well as Windows 10. You can download Intel’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers version 22.80.1 using the direct download links given below.

How to install Intel Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers

Once you have downloaded the respective drivers, the process ahead is simple.

Note: The process for installing both Wi-Fi and Wireless Bluetooth drivers is almost the same as the example given below. In the case of the Wireless Bluetooth driver, you may need to perform an additional step to choose the type of installation. If so, select Typical.

  1. Run the .exe file by double-clicking it. The installation wizard will now launch. On the first screen, click Next.

  2. Next, agree to the End User License Agreement by checking the box below and then click Install.

  3. The driver will then begin installation and the process should not take more than more than a minute. When done, click Finish.

The driver will now be successfully installed, automatically replacing the older version.

Intel Wi-Fi driver v22.80.1 Changelog

The most significant difference, amongst other fixes and improvements, is the support for Windows 11 for this driver. Consumers can now have excellent Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity after upgrading to Windows 11.

The following fixes are implemented with this version of the driver:

  • Windows 10:
    • The wireless device will no longer show the yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager during online videos.
    • Failure to transfer files between a laptop and a Samsung phone using the QuickShare software has been mitigated.
    • The issue of the occasional network connectivity loss while hosting a mobile hotspot on certain devices has been fixed.
    • Failure of certain Intel devices not receiving 802.11 Control frames that are rates greater than 24 Mbps has been fixed.
  • Windows 11 & Windows 10:
    • Functionality and security updates have been added.

  • Intel Wireless-AC 9461/ 9462

Intel Wireless Bluetooth driver v22.80.1 Changelog

Support for Windows 11 has also been added for Intel’s Wireless Bluetooth driver v22.80.1 . However, only one device is currently supported with this driver, while other devices are still using the older version (22.80.0.4). Read more about the details below.

The following fixes are implemented with this version of the driver:

  • The occasional disappearance of the Bluetooth device from the Device Manager, or the Bluetooth device not working entirely on computers with certain Bluetooth headsets, has been fixed.
  • The lagging problem of a Bluetooth mouse while playing an HFP audio via Bluetooth has been addressed.
  • Adding a few functional updates.

Supported hardware

As we mentioned, only one hardware is currently supported for Intel Wireless Bluetooth driver version 22.80.1, which is Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211.

Verdict

Since Intel’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers v22.80.1 bring along some new security signatures as well as functional upgrades, we suggest that you install them, even if you aren’t upgrading to Windows 11 yet.

However, if you are thinking of upgrading to Windows 11 or have already installed it, then you may want to install the latest drivers immediately. Otherwise, your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices may not function like they are supposed to.
