Keyboard Not Working Properly After Update from Microsoft Windows 10Keyboard Not Working Properly After Update from Microsoft Windows 10

When you update Windows 10 to the latest version, the keyboard sometimes doesn’t work, gets jammed or doesn’t work properly. This is because the latest update you installed can cause an error and affect your system functionality, which is why your keyboard stops working properly.

In this tutorial, I will provide you with the solutions so that you can have access to your keyboard properly. I hope that after applying the solution, your keyboard will again work properly.

Uninstall Latest Downloaded Update

The first thing you can do is uninstall the latest update, because there is a chance that the latest update is causing the issue, because in some cases, the update may not work properly as you expected.

Go to Control Panel –> Programs and Features, and go to “View the installed updates”.

If this won’t solve your problem, go to the next solution.

Install the Keyboard Driver

The keyboard may not work due to a driver problem. So update your keyboard driver manually to fix the problem. Go to the Start Menu and type Device Manager. You can find the keyboard from the list. And expand it. Right click on the driver and select the option “Update the driver.”

You may also want to disable driver updates in Windows 10 so that all drivers keep running without problems, or even take a backup of your currently installed device drivers in Windows 10.

Turn Off Filter Keys

Disabling the Filter Keys feature can also make your Keyboard work properly. Filter Keys are used to ignore repeated keystrokes. Or in a simple way, while doing some work, you enter the same key twice or thrice, but you only need it once, so Filter Key won’t happen it and write only single times.

The activation of this feature can also lead to inappropriate functioning of your keyboard. So disable it by going to “Control Panel/Ease of Access/Ease of Access Center/Make the keyboard easier to use”.

Now in the list, you can see the option for “Filter Keys”. Then uncheck the Checkbox for Filter Keys. Close all the windows. Restart your system and hopefully your problem will be gone.

I had the problem where the keyboard was caught between not reacting to any keystrokes and making nonsensical/ ASCII characters appear. After scratching my head for a long time I came to the conclusion that two completely different machines were sharing the same keyboard layout and possibly the license key. I went to Microsoft .com, removed the machine that I no longer used and voila! End of issue

    Friend,

Thank you for this overview, which gave me some understanding of the problem and the options. My fix was to uninstall the keyboard driver, restart and let Windows reinstall the keyboard. Keyboard went dead after the last update to ver 1903. I hope all here experiencing the problem are able to get their rig up and running by way of whatever fix needed.

Was able to change out the battery and spark plugs on a 2005 PT Cruiser. Don’t laugh, because the procedure for both is complicated and obscure if you open the hood and have no clue where to start. YouTube sages to the rescue.

Point is that my mind is blown by articles and sites like this that help the common idiot fix things that are otherwise out of reach but for lack of knowledge.

Thank you for your help. Good Karma is in the wind for people like you.

Unchecking the filter key option in the ease of use section fixed my laptop.

Since I’m on a Surface 4, I was able to use the touch screen. What worked for me was uninstalling the latest Win 10 update, which got installed a day before my keyboard started malfunctioning. Thanks!

Your first suggestion, to uninstall the latest update, is hard to do without a functional keyboard. When I say “hard to do”, I mean impossible, since without a keyboard I cannot log in to Windows and thus cannot do anything.

Once you uninstall the keyboard and refresh hardware from the mouse, the keyboard will automatically be installed again. So there should be nothing to worry about.
