Windows 11 Insider UpdateWindows 11 Insider Update

Microsoft has now released a new Windows update to the Windows 11 Dev channel. Insider Preview Build 25182 has been published for the Insiders, which makes updates to the Camera app and the Microsoft Store app, of which the details have been shared below.

Additionally, this build also brings a lot of other fixes and improvements to the operating system. That said, Microsoft has now set the expiration date of Build 25182 to September 15th, 2023. Users that install this build can avoid getting expiration notices, which is why it is recommended that you install it if you are subscribed to the Dev channel.

Let us now continue to discuss the improvements in this build as well as the known issues.

New in Windows 11 Build 25182

Improvements to the Camera App

Microsoft has made a few changes to the Camera application, updating its version to 2022.2207.29.0. The most significant update is the native support for Arm64 devices. Moreover, the app can now understand the different states of the privacy shutter on supported hardware.

If a supported camera is blocked by a shutter, or if the laptop’s lid is closed, the Camera app will prompt you accordingly and offer guidance.

Updates to Microsoft Store App

The Microsoft Store application has also been updated to build 22207.1401.x. This update includes a few new features to enhance the user experience.

Users will now be able to see a screenshot inside the search results which will allow them to get a gist of what they are browsing, without having to actually open the app page first. Moreover, users can now install games directly from the Store app, and the apps will not change, giving the user a better experience.

Other Improvements and Fixes

Other changes and fixes have also been made with this flight:

  • [General]
    • The issue that was causing devices with low disk space to receive download error 0x80070001 in Windows Update trying to install the latest Dev Channel build has been rectified.
    • An issue leading to some Insiders experiencing a decrease in FPS when playing certain games in recent flights has been fixed.
  • [Taskbar]
    • An issue that could lead to the taskbar overflow flyout unexpectedly appearing on the opposite side of the screen has been fixed.
    • An issue that was causing the animation on the taskbar that plays when a user switches from using a device in tablet posture to desktop while in overflow to incorrectly show when logging in has been addressed.
    • An explorer.exe crash that could happen when determining if the taskbar overflow should display has been fixed.
  • [Start]
    • A Start menu crash that could prevent apps from launching has been fixed.
  • [File Explorer]

    • An issue causing Home, Documents, Pictures, and potentially other folders to become unexpectedly duplicated in File Explorer’s navigation pane or appear on the desktop, has been addressed.
    • Selecting multiple folders and then using the context menu option to open them in a new tab will now actually do that, rather than opening the first folder in a new tab and all the others in a new window.
    • The logic for Narrator has been updated so that if you navigate to a OneDrive folder using the navigation pane in File Explorer, Narrator will now explicitly say it’s a OneDrive folder.
  • [Other]
    • An issue that could cause the camera light on a laptop to get stuck after logging into your PC has been addressed.
    • An issue believed to be the root cause of some Insiders seeing bugchecks when opening and copying files from network locations has been fixed.

    • There are reports of a few different apps having started crashing in recent builds.
    • Some Insiders are experiencing repeated explorer.exe crashes after attempting to access certain folders on your system on Builds 25179 and later.
