What is DNS and how does it work?
DNS stands for Domain Name System. It’s a system that translates domain names, like google.com, into IP addresses, like 142.250.190.142. IP addresses are numbers that computers use to communicate on the internet.
When you visit a website, your computer first needs to find the IP address of the website’s server. To do this, it asks a DNS server. A DNS server is a computer that stores a database of domain names and their corresponding IP addresses.
Your computer may have a list of DNS servers that it uses. If it doesn’t, it will ask your internet service provider (ISP) for a list of DNS servers to use.
Once your computer has a list of DNS servers, it will ask one of the servers for the IP address of the website you want to visit. The DNS server will look up the IP address in its database and return it to your computer.
Your computer will then use the IP address to connect to the website’s server and download the website’s files.
How it Works
- Enter your domain name (we’ll provide a clear placeholder in the input field).
- Hit the “Free Scan” button and let our powerful tool do the work.
- Sit back as your DNS records are fetched and analyzed in a few seconds.
- We present findings with easy-to-understand explanations and color indicators (green for good, orange for warnings, red for critical issues).
