Microsoft has released two new versions of Windows PowerShell – a powerful scripting tool that comes preinstalled with Windows. You can download and install PowerShell 7.1.5 and PowerShell 7.0.8 Long Term Support (LTS) via the direct download links and installation instructions provided below.

PowerShell 7.2 Preview 10 was also released a while back. However, we suggest that you use the latest stable releases in your production environment as it fixes several issues and includes some engine updates.

PowerShell 7.0.8 LTS release only comes with critical security and servicing updates. If you are running PowerShell in an enterprise environment where you don’t want to install any software that may break anything and has a minimal impact on the current workload, then you should install PowerShell LTS. Otherwise, upgrading to PowerShell 7.1.5 is recommended.

PowerShell 7.1.5 and PowerShell 7.0.8 were released on October 14th, 2021.

iex "& { $(irm https://aka.ms/install-powershell.ps1) } -UseMSI -Quiet"
pwsh upgrade
Upgrade PowerShell from the command line

This will automatically install PowerShell 7.1.5 with the default options. You can also migrate from the default PowerShell 5 to PowerShell 7.1.5.

There is another option to install PowerShell over the network which is especially useful for sysadmins.
