New in Firefox 116
Firefox already had a sidebar that you could add to the top menu next to the Omnibox. Now, you have the option to switch the sidebar to the other side, i.e. from the right to the left, and vice versa.
The Sidebar switcher allows users to access Bookmarks, History, and Synced Tabs panels easily, quickly switch between them, move the sidebar to another side of the browser window, or close the sidebar. Now, keyboard users would be able to do it all with ease too, with or without any assistive technology running, without needing to memorize keyboard shortcuts to access these panels.
Here are the steps to add the Sidebar button to the top menu in Firefox:
Click on the 3 lines in the top right corner of the browser.
Click “More Tools” to expand it.
Click “Customize toolbar…“
Now click and hold “Sidebars,” drag it to the top menu (toolbar) and then drop it there.
Once these steps are performed, you can easily switch sides of the sidebar.
Improved Picture-in-Picture mode
The Picture-in-Picture mode was introduced to Firefox a long time ago. However, it lacked basic controls, like the volume adjustment. With Firefox 116, you now have a volume button and a slider to control the volume loudness.
Paste files directly
Firefox now has the ability to open supported files directly by dropping them into the browser. Simply pick a file and drop it over a new tab in Firefox, and it will open the file within the browser, as long a the file format is supported.
