Last updated on April 18, 2024
Samsung is one of the leading smartphone manufacturers around the world. Developed by Samsung Electronics, they also make other gadgets and appliances, including the Galaxy smartwatches and tablets.
One of Samsung’s flagship phones is the Galaxy series which we have covered in the table below.
Support status guide
End of life (EOL) is the end of a product’s useful life. When a product reaches the end of its life cycle, the manufacturer no longer supports it. The following table explains the different phases of a product’s lifecycle. Testing status is when the product is initially released and EOL is when product support is no longer offered. The time between these two points is the support timeframe.

Samsung offers 3 support models for its Galaxy devices. However, it varies which support model(s) a device falls under. You can check which Galaxy device falls under which Samsung support branch here.
-
Active/Monthly Android support: As new versions of Android are released, this model gives a device access to them. With a few exclusions, this model also offers monthly security updates. This covers a device for a maximum of two years, on average, following its release.
-
Quarterly Security Updates: Quarterly security updates are provided for the devices that fall under this support model. This model, which typically lasts a year, takes over once the active/monthly support concludes.
-
Biannual Security Updates: A biannual security update is provided by this model for the supported devices. After the conclusion of the quarterly security updates, this support model takes over and often lasts for another year, or until four years have elapsed since the gadget was introduced.
Note that the dates mentioned in the table above can vary depending on the region of your device.
Samsung previously announced that the S21, S22, and S23 families will receive at least 4 Android updates since the time they were initially launched. However, with the launch of the S24 mobile family, Samsung has announced to provide 7 years of Android updates as well as security support, all the while thinking of a sustainable future.
