Starting with Java 8 Update 161 and later, the installer does not work with Windows XP PRO SP3 computers. The installer starts to open and then closes very soon after. So we can not install it on Windows XP PRO SP3 .. same thing happens if we try the JDK 7 Update 171 … Can this be fixed ? ? ? If so, can we do it our self and if so, how ? ?

Hi Bruce. Java 8 is only supported on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10. If you want to install Java on Windows XP, you may want to download Java 7 Update 80 which was the last update before Java 7 was discontinued. You can download all Java 7 update from this Oracle archive.

Not completely true, as I have Java 8 Update 151 installed on my XP PRO SP3 computer. Java changed something in the installer that checks for the installed Operating System, starting with Java 8 Update 161 and later versions. I am sure, with the correct program, the installer can be altered so that it will run on XP – I just do not know what program to use to modify the .exe file
